A beautiful cultural study about the role of milkmen, milk floats and dairies have become part of British heritage – featuring Wanstead milkman Steve Heyden.
Maxine Beuret is a creative cultural historian, who is drawn to unchanged places and objects that offer a portal into the history and cultural heritage of overlooked parts of our world. Her 'material-discursive' approach starts with the desire to respond photographically to the beauty in the everyday built environment with an emphasis on design history.
All the photography is shot on medium format colour negative film. In partnership with five working dairies over several years 'Two Pints Please' investigates the cultural heritage of door-step milk delivery with electric milk floats in England in the early 21st century Photo shoots have forged a space for her to get to know people who work in the dairy industry such as milk men, mechanics and dairy managers to collaboratively explore the subject together.
As the book illustrates, Parker Dairies is one of the dairies at the heart of the project. They have collaborated with Maxine for the last eight years to discover how the dairy, their milkmen and milk floats have become part of the cultural heritage and identity of East London.
